Here's to Flower Power

It was a joy to be present last week at the AGM of the Belgravia Society, held in the magnificent surroundings of St Peter's Church Eaton Square, where Colin Fisher, owner of the splendid flower stall in Belgrave Square, was presented with a Lifetime Achievement award.
More years ago than I care to remember, I had the honour of owning Moyses Stevens, at that time one of London's leading florists with two Royal Warrants. When my husband bought the company for me as a Christmas present, it was the first time since the mid 1900s that it had been outside family hands!
The shop used to occupy the southern end of Berkeley Square, then very much an office, rather than a residential location, so Saturday trading was unpredictable. Occasionally a flamboyant customer would find his way on a Saturday morning to Moyses, requiring lavish flower displays for a party that evening. By that time the flower market was closed so where could I go? Help?? Every time I would hot-foot it to Colin Fisher's wonderful, life saving stall where I would find it well stocked with superb quality blooms which Moyses would be proud to purchase; and all at 'mates rates'.
Very happy memories.... and well done Colin!
